More About Us

The Sourcing

By choosing Ziggy, you are choosing transparency and safety, design and functionality.

Unlike big box stores and even high-end luxury retailers, we are focused on providing consumers with education and choice when it comes to understanding and sourcing healthy home furnishings.

Our goal is to provide a superior finished product through thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship typically only available with custom furniture. You can rest easy knowing we never use toxic glues or paints, your furniture will never smell or off-gas, and rather than taking a spin around the world on a container ship, your Ziggy piece was made right here in the USA.

Here are several ways we are different:

1. Commitment to Formaldehyde-Free Plywood

Our plywood that forms the frames on most of our furniture is completely formaldehyde-free. Formaldehyde has been shown to cause cancer and scientists recommend reducing exposure to materials that contain formaldehyde in your home, especially where ventilation is limited.

2. We only work with Green & Sustainably Sourced Wood Materials

Our wood materials meet a variety of green and sustainable product standards including:

-SFI® Sustainable Forestry Initiative - Certified Sourcing
-Eco-Certified Composite (ECC) Standard 4-11 – Environmentally Responsible Use of Wood Fiber
-LEED® US Green Building Council & Green Globes® Rating System – New Construction and Major Renovations
-ICC 700-2015 National Green Building Standard™ – Resource Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Remodeling

3. All of our Finishes are 100% Water-Based

All of Ziggy designs are constructed and finished using paints and finishes that fall below the Greenguard Limit for VOC content. While nearly all paints and finishes—including VOC-free paints—contain trace amounts of VOCs, at Ziggy we tested a variety of paints and finishes making our final choices based on which products had the lowest VOC measurements without compromising on quality.

The Sustainability

We only work with Green & Sustainably Sourced Wood Materials. We have to packaged our items to ensure a safe delivery, but often times make local east coast deliveries ourselves to avoid excess packaging. We also work with carbon neutral shipping partners as often as we are able.

The Spark

When my interior design clients started requesting non-toxic and eco-friendly choices, I used that as an opportunity to learn more with them. I also started listening to my body’s reaction to toxicity in my environment: Why do I feel lightheaded after visiting a job site? Why do cleaning products give me a headache? These aren’t coincidences, and it left the Ziggy team all very curious.

The Differentiator

The home furnishings industry can be fairly opaque with few vendors advertising or educating consumers on what materials they use. It was this absence of information that got us thinking about what we could do to offer more education and choice.

At first, it seems a little crazy to think about your home being a haven for toxicity, but once you know a little bit about the topic, it doesn’t seem far-fetched at all. As American consumers, we have become trained to question why things are so expensive, when, really, we should be wondering, How could that possibly be so cheap? The likely answer is that something—quality, safety, wages, the environment—was compromised along the way.

Our goal in founding Ziggy is to provide a superior finished product through thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship typically only available with custom furniture. You can rest easy knowing we never use toxic glues or paints, your furniture will never smell or off-gas, and rather than taking a spin around the world on a container ship, your Ziggy piece was made right here in the USA.

We are dedicated to transparency and using the highest quality materials possible.
